Anyone who has been to this lake understands why the beauty of Lake Como has been admired since ancient times. The lake's deep blue waters reflect the panorama of the majestic Alps. The picturesque lakeshore is adorned by numerous luxurious villas with flowering gardens. It is not without reason that this place is a favourite holiday destination for many world celebrities: Madonna, Schumacher, George Clooney, Valentini.
Since Roman times, it has been home to patrician villas, attracted by the natural beauty and climate of the area.
Over the centuries, small, pretty towns with their own special atmosphere, charming villas and fabulous gardens grew up along the lakeshore, creating a fishing tradition that is unique to the area.
We'll take a stroll along the most beautiful waterfronts of the towns. We'll take a look at churches with an incredible heritage of icons, statues and enchanting mosaics. We'll also discover the local cuisine and visit the most famous towns on the lake - Balaggio and Varenna
Baladjo town Located on the promontory that divides Lake Como in two, it boasts an unforgettable shoreline and Alpine views. Balaggio became one of the first spa towns in northern Italy, dating back to ancient Roman times.
It is here that the most beautiful villas on the Lake Como coast are built. Among them, the ancient summer residence belonging to Duke Francesco Melzi d'Erila, a friend and associate of Napoleon Bonaparte, stands out.
Once upon a time, long long ago, Varenna was a simple fishing village. Now it is a luxurious town, small even by Italian standards, nestled on the slopes of the Alps. With its streets and magnificent gardens, it repeats the curve of the mountain, like frozen lava flowing towards Lake Como.
