We will arrive at one of the most remote and inaccessible places on the route - the ancient in the city-fortress of Yachshilan, which sits on a cliff above the river. The city's name translates as “city of green stones”: because of the almost 100% humidity, ancient Mayan buildings - pyramids, temples, palaces and even stadiums - are covered in a thick layer of emerald moss. There is a true primordial atmosphere: huge ceiba trees, lianas, sultry forest air, monkeys howling, parrots calling and jungle sounds that could belong to a roaring monkey or... a jaguar.

After visiting Yashchilan, return along the river to see crocodiles roosting on its muddy banks and the daily life of the locals - they wash their clothes, bathe and draw water directly from the Usumasintas, rivers the colour of melted chocolate.

Lunch on the banks of the Usumasint.

Next, a journey into the heart of the Lakandon jungle, the “forbidden zone”, where the last members of the Mayan Lakandon tribe live. For centuries they hid from the Spanish conquerors in impenetrable forests and have preserved their unique language, ancient customs and rituals to this day. The Bonampak Ruin, famous for its frescoes - unique scenes painted on the walls, depicting ancient Mayan life in detail.

End the day with a refreshing swim at Roberto Barrios Waterfall (weather permitting).
